Do you want hardwood flooring that makes your guests exclaim, “Wow!” when they enter your home? Choosing a design such as the basket weave pattern can make this a reality. For example, doesn’t the kitchen flooring in the picture above and photos below look amazing? They’re part of a custom design we created for a client’s home. Keep reading for the project details!

Project Spotlight Details

Although we installed floors throughout the home, the kitchen is really the gem of this project. As you can see in the photos, we combined hardwood flooring with tiles in a basket weave pattern to create a stunning foundation to the space.

When the client came to San Jose Hardwood Floors, they’d already worked with a designer (Kathy Monarch of Monarch Designs & Studio) so they knew what they wanted. They opted for a beautiful basket weave pattern in the kitchen and then the same hardwood flooring throughout the home.

In addition to the kitchen, we installed hardwood floors in the entryway, hallway and bedrooms for a total of 3,000 square feet. We used Graf Brothers’ unfinished 5-inch wide Red Oak Select/Better with a custom stain mix. The satin was created using 4-5 colors and no dye.

In the kitchen, the tile was a special-order stone (as opposed to ceramic). We worked with a tile installer to create the basket weave pattern. We snapped the lines and put down the hardwood flooring, then he laid and grouted the tile. Finally, we completely tapped off the tile and stained the floor.

Curious how long the project took? We spent 4-5 days on the kitchen, 3-4 days on the entryway and hallways and 4-5 days sanding and finishing the new floors. Then, a couple of years after we finished the kitchen, entryway and hallways, the client decided they loved the hardwood flooring so much they wanted to expand it into the bedrooms as well, which took us 3 days to complete.
