Trends in Cabinetry & Hardwood Flooring

What’s popular when it comes to cabinetry and hardwood flooring? Whether you’re ready to remodel your home or are simply looking for inspiration, here are some trends to consider.

Ways to Coordinate Cabinetry with Hardwood Flooring

Here are four ways to coordinate your home’s cabinets and floors.

1. Design the space using matching wood and stain. As you can see in the header image above, the kitchen cabinetry is the same species, style and stain as the hardwood flooring.

2. Contrast the cabinetry’s wood and stain with the hardwood flooring. The difference between the cabinets and floors doesn’t need to be extreme. As you can see in the bedroom photo above, the cabinetry is darker than the floor, but it’s not a severe difference. The great room below, however, contrasts natural hickory floors against a dark stained island and wet bar.

3. Use mixed wood that complements the floors for the cabinets. Once you select a wood species and stain that you like for the hardwood flooring or cabinetry, use complementary styles and shades to create an interesting visual in the space.

4. Contrast painted or glazed cabinets with stained cabinetry and hardwood flooring. One trend is to make the upper and lower cabinets different, and then use the island as an accent piece (as seen in the header image above). In the great room below, you can also see how painted cabinets can really pop against wood flooring and cabinetry.

There are a lot of options when it comes to cabinetry and hardwood flooring. Whether you match the wood and the stain, contrast the cabinets against the floors, mix the wood stains or use painted or glazed cabinetry, the design possibilities are endless!
