Project Spotlight: Cumaru Hardwood Flooring Installation

Are you considering Cumaru wood for your home? This eco-friendly species is one of the hardest, which makes it durable, insulated and easy to keep clean. Plus, thanks to it being naturally oily, it holds up against stains well.

Cumaru Hardwood Flooring Project Details

Want an example of Cumaru flooring once it’s been installed? You’re in luck! We have some fantastic images from a project in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. In addition to the beautiful picture above, you can see more photos from the project on Houzz.

Originally, the client wasn’t sure what type of flooring they wanted, but once they came into our showroom we were able to help them choose a good fit for their home. They ended up selecting natural Cumaru wood (no stain or dye, just finish) in a tongue and groove mixed clear ¾” x 5” style. We also purchased it directly from a mill in Pennsylvania for them, so it was a custom floor, made specifically for their home.

In this project, the Cumaru flooring was installed in the entryway, living room, family room, kitchen, pantry, laundry room, nook, hallway and four bedrooms. The area totaled 2400 square feet. The installation took less than two weeks: seven days to glue the Cumaru wood with moisture barrier glue (it was not nailed) and then six days to sand and finish it with a Bona Traffic water-based semi-gloss finish.
