Project Spotlight: White Oak Hardwood Flooring

We’ve discussed the benefits to white oak hardwood flooring before: it’s color makes a space feel uplifting and serene; the grain has a smooth, uniform texture; it’s more durable than other species of oak and it’s more water resistant than other types of hardwood. With all these advantages to this wood species, we thought you’d appreciate a project spotlight that was dependent on white oak.

About the White Oak Project

As you can see in the photo above, the white oak hardwood flooring provided a light, inspiring feel to the client’s home. They had us install 1500 square feet of character grade 7-inch wide white oak planks (which has a unique look due to the sap, deposits and knots) throughout the home, including the dining room, entryway and stairs.

This installation was new when the house was built, and the project took us a total of 10 days: 4 for installation and 6 to sand and finish.

The client knew exactly what he wanted when he came to San Jose Hardwood Floors. It was a new install when the house was built, so as you can tell from the photos, the water based Bona Traffic finish has provided a lot of durability. The color has also darkened a bit over time, as is typical for white oak hardwood flooring with this type of natural finish.
