When it comes to refinishing your hardwood floors, we like to be as up front as possible, including dust control. Do you want to know the truth? Keep reading for 6 facts about dustless refinishing.
Six Facts About Dust Control & Dustless Hardwood Floor Refinishing
Here's what you need to know about dust free floor refinishing:
- No matter what some companies might say, completely dustless refinishing just doesn't exist. Although 100 percent dustless refinishing is impossible, dust control is absolutely possible with a dustless containment system (DCS). It reduces the dust by 75 to 80 percent and can make a big difference.
- Because there will always be dust leftover after sanding, it's important that cleanup is done correctly before the polyurethane is applied; if there's still dust on the floor then particles will be left in the finish. This is one of the main problems people have when they sand and finish their hardwood floors.
- The good thing is that a DCS makes cleanup much easier and faster, as long as the installer vacuums well with the correct equipment.
- Almost every company charges to use a DCS, but at San Jose Hardwood Floors we actually charge less because we're able to save costs on plastic, blue tape and the labor of hanging plastic around the room.
- Some companies use huge dustless systems that have large trailers and are very expensive, but the truth is that a specialized vacuum like Clarke American Sanders' CAV 12 is just as effective when it comes to dust control.
- Because truly dustless refinishing doesn't exist, we recommend scheduling a professional cleaning after refinishing your hardwood floors (or following any construction project).
