Pantone may not have announced its Color of the Year yet, but experts are already weighing in on top home color trends for 2018. What hues should you incorporate into your home? How do these shades affect the flooring you choose? Keep reading to find out!
23 Top Color Trends for 2018
Pantone isn't the only voice when it comes to the annual color trends. Benjamin Moore, Behr, Sherwin-Williams and PPG Paints all have colors of the year you may want to consider incorporating into your home.
Benjamin Moore: Caliente
As the Benjamin Moore website explains, "Caliente is the signature color of a modern architectural masterpiece; a lush carpet rolled out for a grand arrival; the assured backdrop for a book-lined library; a powerful first impression on a glossy front door. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes. Harness the vitality."
The website also shares a palette of complementary hues to pair with Caliente. If you like this shade of strong, radiant, energetic red, you may want to consider flooring that is the same color as some of the hues in the palette, such as Saddle Soap, Smoked Oyster, Incense Stick, Black Beauty or Elk Horn.
Behr: 20 Color Trends for 2018
Instead of selecting one hue to focus on, Behr created a palette of popular color trends to add to your home. The palette includes a variety of shades, from bright, eye-catching hues like Life Is Good, Wide Sky and Spirit Warrior to darker, deeper colors like Constellation Blue, Nocturne Shade and Equilibrium.
If you find shades you'd like to incorporate into your home, you can refer to their palette for complementary flooring colors, such as Kombucha, Road Less Travelled and Off The Grid.
Sherwin Williams: Oceanside
Sherwin-Williams describes this hue as, "A collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green, a color that is both accessible and elusive...a complex, deep color that offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown, Oceanside, bridges together a harmonious balance of blues and greens that can be found in what's old and new."
Sherwin-Williams also recommends using the deep, rich blue for the front door as well as in a home office, bedroom or reading nook, and suggests pairing it with various shades to evoke different feelings within a room: exuberance, relaxation or natural beauty.
Because of its association with nature, this is one of those color trends that would pair nicely with natural hardwood flooring as well as stunning dark floors.
PPG Paints: Black Flame
While it's a less exuberant choice than some of the color trends above, PPG Paints explains, "This statement-making black, infused with an undertone of the deepest indigo, evokes the privacy, hope and classic modernism that many consumers crave today. Embodying the spirit of a tailored tuxedo or a little black dress, it is dressed-up, coveted, unapologetic and – most importantly – timeless."
One nice thing about Black Flame is it's a shade you could easily use as flooring itself. Because it's so strong and dark, you'd be able to use accessories such as area rugs, furniture and light fixtures to add stunning pops of color throughout the space.
