- Continuing the home design into the office. We’ve been seeing a lot of owners choose to extend the floors (especially hardwood flooring) from the rest of their house into the office area. There are a few good reasons for this. First, it gives an overall continuity to the home design, which will also be convenient if you choose to sell down the road. Second, you may not always use the space as an office, so it may look odd to have one room drastically different from the others. Third, you probably chose your home’s floors because you like them, so why not use them as your home office flooring too?
- Freestanding desks. Although many homeowners still choose built-in bookcases, a lot of homeowners seem to like the flexibility of a freestanding desk over bulky modular work areas. In addition to rearranging the room as needed, a smaller freestanding desk can keep the room from feeling crowded.
- Pull Down/Murphy Beds. This is a fantastic option if your office space occasionally doubles as a guest room. Instead of needing to choose one over the other, keep the bed stored and then pull it down when needed. A freestanding desk would definitely make this a more practical choice, too!
