Sometimes engineered hardwood floors are exactly what you're looking for. They're more environmentally friendly, withstand moisture better, are more dimensionally stable and are less expensive than their solid wood counterparts. If you're looking for engineered floors, what manufacturer should you consider? We'd recommend Owens Plank Flooring! Their engineered PlankFloor is an eco-friendly alternative that makes a fantastic addition to any home.

About Owens Plank Flooring

What do we love about Owens Plank Flooring? As Hosking Hardwood explains, "The construction of Owens Engineered Flooring is nothing short of perfect. Using the highest quality baltic birch plywood, Owens fuses 9 layers together using their PUR Glue, creating an incredibly stable core."

Known for its versatility, this manufacturer's flooring comes in a wide variety of widths, lengths and designs. Plus, unlike thin laminates, Owens engineered wood flooring has a life expectancy and appearance similar to traditional 3/4-inch floors.

Although it’s engineered, Owens’ PlankFloor can be sanded and refinished over and over again (4-6 times!) just like solid wood because of its 3/16 inch sawn wear layer fused to a multi-ply hardwood core. This gives it an incredible amount of stability and means your Owens floors will last more than 100 years. Extremely versatile with a wide variety of sizes, styles and lengths, Owens is able to create four pieces of flooring from just one piece of lumbar (an amount that would generally just create one piece of solid flooring).

We also love the versatility that accompanies Owens hardwood floors. Hosking Hardwood continues, "All of their engineered flooring is approved for installation on any level of your home including over radiant heating systems."

Flooring Options from Owens PlankFloor

Another benefit many of our customers enjoy from Owens PlankFloor is the custom options. The company can create planks in a variety of widths (2-1/4 inches to 8 inches) and lengths (1 inch to 8 inches).

The company can even customize the flooring's thickness. While the standard is 5/8 inches for the PlankFloor, Owens can also make them in:

  • 1/2 inches with a 3.5 mm or 2/6 mm wear layer
  • 5/8 inches with a 4.7mm wear layer (which is the standard wear layer)
  • 3/4 inches with a 4.7mm wear layer (this is the same thickness as a typical solid hardwood flooring plank)

Owens’ engineered wood flooring is also available in a wide variety of species, including:

Those aren't the only custom options available, though! The edge can be Micro-Bevel, Chamfer Bevel, Grand Bevel and Radius Bevel, and the homeowner can also choose between smooth or hand scraped flooring.

Hardwood Floors for the Eco-Friendly Inclined

Another great thing about Owens is how eco-friendly these hardwood floors are. The company uses formaldehyde-free glues and ultra low emissions in the construction process. Each option the company offers is CARB Phase II certified, keeping VOCs in your home low. Their flooring is FSC certified and Lacy Act Compliant too, so you can rest assured Owens Plankfloor is created with sustainable forestry in mind and free from illegal logging practices. Plus, Owens engineered wood flooring can contribute to LEED certification points!
